Flex Ltd. closing Tempe, Ariz., injection molding plant, laying off 50

Austin, Texas-based contract manufacturer Flex Ltd. is closing one of its Tempe, Ariz., plants, laying off 50 employees.

The closure is effective Oct. 31, a spokesperson for Flex said in an emailed statement to Plastics News.

"This action was not taken lightly, and it is always difficult decision to close a site," the statement said. "This is a necessary step that will deliver the operational efficiencies needed to continue to provide the best quality, service and value to our customers."

The company offered severance packages for employees "who could not be reassigned," it said.

Flex has two locations in Tempe. The address of only one facility was included on the WARN notice filed with the state on Aug. 29.

The plant was part of the former Tech Mold Inc. business, which Flex, then known as Flextronics International Ltd., bought in November 2013.

Flex manufactures and designs products for industries including automotive, industrial, health care and others, has more than 100 facilities in 30 countries with about 170,000 employees.
